Please Make Your Plans to Join Us For the
Waukegan Sail & Power Squadron
2008 Memorial Day Cruise and Blessing of the Fleet
at the Great Lakes Navy Base
Monday, May 26, 2008
Plan to arrive at the harbor by boat or by automobile by 1000 hours
The service is scheduled to begin at 1100 hours. To prevent being disruptive, we would like to have our boats secured about an hour prior to the service.
For the third time in as many years, WSPS members and guests are privileged to be invited to attend the U.S. Navy Memorial Day program. Those that have participated previously will appreciate this unique opportunity. It can be, and usually is, a very worthwhile and moving experience.
Participation in the Blessing of the Fleet, following the formal service, requires only that you have your boat in the harbor.
The Great Lakes Yacht Club and the U.S. Navy Fleet Reserve will serve lunch following the Blessing of the Fleet.
As a gesture of thanks, it is appropriate that we reimburse our hosts for their expenses. This year, the planned reimbursement for our members and guests will be $10.00 per person with no charge for Children under 16 years.
Entry to the Navy harbor is straight forward. We recommend that all boats bear to the south side when entering the outer harbor entrance. Our Power Squadron members will monitor VHF channel 16 and will provide directions and assistance for all boats.
Our members and guests also have the option of driving through the Main Gate.
In either instance, we must inform the Navy of our plans. It will be a great help to everyone if you will confirm your reservations as early as possible. We want to provide the Navy with our final head-count by Wednesday, May 21.
Reservations for all members and guests should be directed to Jim Moran.
More details will be sent to you as we draw closer to the event. Please send your reservations and advance payment to:
